What is the Art of Personal Safety About?

The Art of Personal Safety teaches basic, simple, and effective self-defense techniques while promoting mental, emotional, and physical health and well-being. The Art of Personal Safety services Joliet, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Naperville, and other areas surrounding Plainfield, IL.

The Art of Personal Safety is learning Personal Self-Defense to protect ourselves within our internal and external environments. A process of learning and understanding who and what we are to achieve Personal Self-Control which will lead to our Self-Preservation. Permitting ourselves to be at peace with who and what we are is the culmination of self-actualization.

The Art of Personal Safety is having the courage to consciously be, who we are, with the FREEDOM to See, Create and Express ourselves in our world.

– Phouvang

Bear in mind, mental and emotional attack starts way before physical contact. A person can be attacked mentally and emotionally. Practicing the Art of Personal Safety is the ability to practice “preventative” action. This simply means we will self-preserve within any means possible. We will take preventative measures at all costs, but will not sacrifice our integrity, trust, honor, and respect in the process. Integrity, trust, honor, and respect are prominent to our personal self-cultivation.

The Art of Personal Safety is not all about self-defense. It is about survival and self-preservation, and if we must fight, we fight to defend ourselves and our loved ones from mental, emotional, and physical harm. We do not fight out of necessity, fear, or the need to prove something to someone so we can satisfy our weak and pathetic egos.

“There was a story of a young monk who witnessed a fox chasing a rabbit. The young monk asked the older monk what could happen. The older monk replied, “The rabbit will outrun the fox.” “The fox is bigger and stronger, how are you so sure?” asked the young monk. “The fox is chasing its lunch, the rabbit is running for its Life.” The older monk answered.”

When faced with an unwanted or forceful attack, survival is the only option.

The Personal Circle of Defense for APS is built around three main areas. These three areas are:

  1. Mental-Training the mind to live in the moment, to be in the moment, and to enjoy the moment by eliminating negative and unnecessary thoughts. “Thoughts are the seeds of Life and Death.”

  2. Emotional-Emotions control every aspect of the human psyche. “Control your emotions or they will control you.”

  3. Physical-Training the body to be flexible, adaptable, and to be READY for unexpected encounters. “We must “physically” learn about fighting to learn self-defense.”

Practicing the Art of Personal Safety within these three main areas will lead to Personal Self-Control which will lead to our Self-Preservation.

“The Art of Personal Safety is an inward journey that requires a re-conditioning of the mental, emotional and physical.”

– Phouvang

The process of re-conditioning involves the understanding, practicing, and most importantly the applications of the following 6 Core Disciplines of APS:

  1. Mindful Breathing
  2. Stretching for Mind & Body
  3. Personal Circle of Defense
